12 Months of Drinks: April – Disney’s Mint Julep Recipe (Non-Alcoholic)

April 21, 2015 Leave a Comment

IG_DisneyMintJulep1_text
It is that time again to share a fun drink with y’all on the blog! Everyone has been talking about Mint Julep’s and the Kentucky Derby lately (which, is totally on my bucket list) and I thought since we have a Disney trip coming up… I would do a copy cat version of Disney’s mint julep drink! Now, of course this drink is non-alcoholic, so it’d be a fun one to share with the kids to celebrate the Kentucky Derby at home… AND, it is actually a real drink that they serve up at Disneyland (see HERE) at the Mint Julep Bar in New Orleans Square. Unfortunately, they do NOT serve this drink at Disney World… which is where we are heading. So, I told Brian that we need to plan a trip to Disneyland JUST to try this drink… plus, I am 37 and I’ve been to Disney World more times then I can count and I’ve never been to California or Disneyland. Yep, a trip needs to be planned.

OH, and… just to make it clear… this is Disney’s spin on a mint julep and NO, it does not taste anything like a real mint julep. But, it is so DARN good anyway!

So, are these photos making you thirsty? And, if you have noticed a difference in my close up photos, it is all thanks to a new piece of glass that Brian bought me. I am now an official owner of a MACRO lens and I love it! So easy to use and such a game changer when it comes to detail shots for photos. I should have gotten one years ago!

Now… enough gushing on the macro lens, let’s talk about how to serve this drink up!

Ingredients
Ingredients:
3 cups club soda
1 cup sugar
3 teaspoons lime juice
6 ounces frozen lemonade, thawed (do not dilute with water)
6 tablespoons Creme de Menthe syrup (found near coffee syrups/flavorings or by ice cream cones/toppings)
Garnish with: fresh mint leaves, pineapple chunks and maraschino cherries

Pour 3 cups club soda into a medium-sized pot. Add sugar, lime juice and lemonade. Stir with a wire whisk. Heat to a rolling boil until sugar dissolves. Remove from heat. Add Creme de Menthe syrup. Stir well. Let cool and then place in fridge to chill.

Add ice to an empty glass. Pour chilled syrup into serving glass and then add cold water (3 parts syrup to 5 parts water) and stir.

Add a sprig of fresh mint. Stick pineapple and cherries on a toothpick and insert into glass. Serve immediately.
